Date and Time:
Thursday 2 April - Sunday 12 April

T-shirts worn and signed by TV presenter Steve Backshall were auctioned on eBay in April to raise money for World Land Trust (WLT). The auction raised £1,335.92.

Steve wore some of the T-shirts while training for Strictly Come Dancing (in 2014 he teamed up with Ola Jordan on the popular BBC television programme and made it through nine weeks of the show). Others he has worn at public events.

The 17 different shirts – 16 T-shirts decorated with wildlife designs and a safari shirt – are sized men’s large and are all are signed by him. Each shirt will be dispatched with a signed photograph of Steve.

Among the 16 T-shirts was one sporting an owl with the face of Ola Jordan, Steve’s ballroom dancing partner in Strictly. The ‘Owla’ shirt went on display in the window of WLT’s office in Halesworth – and attracted plenty of attention!

Proceeds from the auction were used to sponsor Steve’s entry in the Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Race to raise funds to purchase and protect rainforest in Colombia. His personal sponsorship target of £22,500 was matched thanks to generous donations from a WLT Council member (£15,000) and Maidenhead Aquatics (£7,500) to give a total of £45,000.

Thanks to the proceeds of the auction and donations still coming in, Steve has now set his sights on a target of £50,000.

The 125 mile non stop endurance race took place on 4 April 2015. With co-paddler George Barnicoat, Steve completed the course in 23 hours and 17 minutes. WLT held a supporter rally near the finish line in Westminster on Sunday 5 April.

The 17 auctions ran from 11am Thursday 2 April to Sunday 12 April 2015
