Among the huge Ceiba trees of the Laipuna Reserve, in a region that has lost over 95 per cent its natural forest cover, ranger José is protecting threatened Tumbesian dry forest.
Recently married and celebrating the birth of his first child, José’s work as a ranger gives him a stable income to provide for his family.
José said: “The animal that I would most like to see in the wild is the Puma – it is so beautiful and mysterious. But of course, I do not know what I would do if one was in front of me!”
