Andrew has been an active member of the Friends of Kinangop Site Support Group since its inception in 1997.
Now employed as ranger, Andrew is responsible for monitoring species and biodiversity within Leleshwa Nature Reserve. (The reserve is managed by the Friends of Kinangop in partnership with Nature Kenya.)
Among the rare bird species that Andrew is monitoring are Jackson’s Widowbird, listed by IUCN as Near Threatened, and Sharpe’s Longclaw, which is listed as Endangered.
Andrew has also been working closely with the local community, helping resolve conflicts and promoting understanding of conservation issues within the area.
Andrew says about his work: “The work is very important since it’s conserving and preserving nature, and ensuring that gene pool of flora and fauna is maintained. Also it encourages me to learn more about plants and animals.”
